Urgent Information!

ATTENTION PROVIDERS! NEW ALERT FROM DSS! PLEASE READ!

We have heard from two of our child care regional offices that there are persons posing as licensing workers trying to gain access to family child care provider’s homes. The story we’ve heard is that they are indication they are there to provide a letter grade to the facility.

The Department has reminded our staff that they must provide picture identification upon entry into any licensed facility. We’ve also asked staff to do the following when making visits:

· Advise licensees that it is standard protocol for licensing staff to present identification before entering a facility;

· Encourage licensees to ask for identification if a person trying to gain entry does not follow the above protocol;

· Advise licensees that they may call the local licensing office for verification, if necessary;

· Encourage licensees to contact local law enforcement if persons posing as licensing staff try to gain entry into their facility without proper identification.

 Additionally, in the Orange County Child Care office, we have not hired any new staff in over a year.

We are updating our web site with this same information.

Please share this information with fellow providers.

Thank you,

Mary Kaarmaa,

Orange County Child Care Manager
