We understand that there are
different opinions regarding what to eat, however all will agree that eating more natural healthy food,
reducing the intake of processed foods is important along with a daily
routine of physical activity.
Eating the Alphabet A-Z
What is it? Children
take part in a month-long fruit/vegetable promotion where they learn about
and taste-test fruits and vegetables from A-Z.
Getting Started –
Brainstorm to come up with a list of fruits and vegetables that begin
with the letters A-Z. On day one children will taste and rate one or two
fruits and/or vegetables that begin with the letter “A”, such
as avocado and Asian pears. On day two they will sample fruit and/or
vegetables that begin with the letter “B”, such as brussel
sprouts and blueberries, and so on.
Next Step –
Create an evaluation form for students to record whether they tried the
fruits and vegetables offered, whether or not they liked them, and
whether or not they would like to see them added to, or offered more
often for lunch or snack. Choose a cheery, well-lit place to hold the
daily taste-testing. Decorate the tasting area so that it will attract
attention and so children can quickly walk by, pick-up the samples, and
taste and rate the fruits and vegetables. Compile evaluations results and
add the favorites to your lunch or snack menu. Share with parents what their
child like and did not life.
Bon Appetite!!
